EEOC Filings down in 2014

The EEOC recently completed its statistics for the year 2014. Overall, charges of employment discrimination have declined to the lowest number since 2007, but charges of retaliation have increased and comprise the highest-ever percentage (42.8%) of filings.

The top 10 categories of filings by the EEOC are:

1. Retaliation under all statutes: 42.8 % of all charges filed
2. Race (including racial harassment): 35 %
3. Sex (including pregnancy and sexual harassment): 29.3 %
4. Disability 28.6 %
5. Age 23.2 %
6. National Origin 10.8 %
7. Religion:4.0 %
8. Color 3.1 %
9. Equal Pay Act: 1.1 %
10. Genetic Information Non-Discrimination Act 0.4 %

The overall numbers of filings were down for 2014 but the EEOC attributes at least some of that to the government shutdown last year.
